How to Port Your Mobile Number to Another Network

Mobile Number Portability allows you to switch operators while keeping your existing phone number. The process is simple but there are important steps to follow for a smooth transition.

How MNP Works

Send an SMS with PORT followed by your number to 1900. You receive a Unique Porting Code valid for 4 days. Visit the new operator with this code, your ID, and address proof to complete the switch.

Eligibility

Your number must be at least 90 days old with the current operator. There should be no pending contractual obligations. Outstanding dues must be cleared before initiating the port request.

Timeline

Urban areas complete porting in 3-5 working days. Rural areas may take up to 7 working days. You will receive confirmation messages during the process and your service will briefly interrupt during the switch.

Things to Consider

Research the new operator coverage in your frequently visited areas. Check if your current plan benefits like OTT subscriptions will be lost. Compare equivalent plans on the new network before switching.

Common Issues

Port requests can be rejected if you have outstanding dues, an active contract, or have ported recently. Ensure all conditions are met before initiating the process to avoid delays.

Porting gives you the freedom to choose the best network without losing your number. Take advantage of this right whenever your current operator no longer meets your needs.
